CABLE REEL CARRIER

The Cable Reel Carrier (CRC) is a supplemental system for Rubber-Tire Gantry (RTG) Cranes that allows the cranes to use electrical power instead of traditional diesel-electric generators. This drastically reduces diesel fuel consumption, yielding a more environmentally friendly port operation.

The Cable Reel Carrier is separate cart that traverses alongside the RTG crane, holding the power cable. This arrangement provides the simplest method of electrifying RTG cranes, eliminating the need for complex guidance mechanisms or ground modifications in cases where cables reels are mounted on the crane.

The Cable Reel Carrier is a simple solution to that provides Rubber Tire Gantry crane electrification, overcoming the challenges of delivering power to from the electric infrastructure to mobile machinery.

One of the major challenges of crane electrification is the fact that RTG cranes stray significantly from straightline paths, which complicates the matter of drawing and laying down power cables in their fixed enclosures.

The CRC however, is a separate rolling cart which traverses on top of a cable guide channel. The CRC is mechanically linked to the RTG crane so that it can remain alongside and supply power. However, it is guided by the cable guide channel without being influenced by lateral travel deviations by the RTG crane.
